The Grand Rapids Marathon 20 Mile Training Run will allow you to put your training to the test before the actual race. A clock will be available at the start/finish, but the event will serve as a training run only with no finishing times or awards provided.
The Race Director, Don Kern, will give a course talk at 7:30am so you can know what to expect for race day.
Benefiting the designated Grand Rapids Marathon charities, the 20 Mile Training Run will begin at 8 a.m. at John Ball Park and involve most of the 2008 marathon course. Registration for the event is $10 and available online or the day of the event at John Ball Park Zoo. The first 150 registrants for the 20 Mile Training Run will receive a commemorative, cotton 20 MileTraining Run t-shirt. All participants will receive aid station access and post-race refreshments.
The run will start and finish from John Ball Park zoo (around the 3 mile mark) and will follow most of the course (there is 1 out and back that we wont do). There are 4 aid stations on the course, which you will pass several times. You wont go without water for more that a few miles at a time. There will also be some GU and special treats out there as well. Registration will stay open through Friday night and you will be able to register race morning if there are shirts left. We will have a medical team and roaming cyclists, but remember this is a training run and not a race. We will have some water (thanks to Maynard's Water Conditioning), runner rolls (thanks to Great Harvest Bread Company) at the start / finish (zoo).
